Jocke Mar 3, 2006 03:52 ET | Hamel was hit in his left eye by a Ken Linseman clearing shot after this fight and was hospitalized on the night of the injury and remained in the hospital for a week. The injury, which cost him 90 percent of the vision in his eye, required surgery and ended his career. | Reply |

whlfan Aug 16, 2008 17:49 ET | This was the first fight in what may have been a brawl. The Montreal Gazette mentions that they were fighting, and then Nilan and O'Reilly were squaring off. But it doesn't say if they actually fought. Larry Robinson, who was paired up with Brian Curran, slipped and hit the back of his head on the ice, knocking him out. He had to be carried off the ice, but the Big Bird wasn't seriously hurt. | Reply |

knight77 54 fight reviews Aug 29, 2012 05:57 ET | Terry O'Reilly narrow win | Fun 4 |
Just prior to the beginning of the tape, Kent Carlson and Keith Crowder had engaged in a fight. As Carlson was being convoyed to the penalty box, Ken Linseman took a slash at him. Chris Nilan went after Linseman and Terry O'reilly came in after Nilan. The tape begins with O'Reilly and Nilan squared off, skating backwards in tandem with one another, each apparently looking for an opening. Players on both teams follow the two would-be combatants. It is clear that both teams have too many players on the ice, but this was not a bench clearer.
Brian Curran and Larry Robinson are paired off, when Curran makes a fairly unusual move. He swings Robinson around and down to the ice, with the Canadiens defenceman hitting his head in the process. Realizing that Robinson is knocked out, Curran immediately signals for help from the Montreal bench. The Canadiens' trainer comes onto the ice with the melee still going full tilt.
As O'reilly and Nilan continue to back up, the Habs' winger loses his footing. O'Reilly takes advantage of the opening and throws several glancing blows at Nilan while the latter is scrambling around on the ice. The tape cuts out and the NESN announcer provides a report on Robinson's condition (it turns out that he was not seriously injured).
There would, however, be some carry-over from this exhibition game. Each game at the Garden that year between two clubs featured a half-dozen fights |
