This came about after a slash by VanderVeeken on Cloutier at the very start of the first period. Cloutier and VanderVeeken had nearly fought then, before both Campbell and Chamberlain later also exchanged verbals with VanderVeeken. Things had then appeared to calm down however after Devils' fifth goal Campbell asks VanderVeeken to go again but VanderVeeken refuses. On the subsequent shift Campbell follows VanderVeeken around the ice before VanderVeeken suddenly drops the gloves and lunges in on Campbell who also quickly sheds his.
VanderVeeken grabs straight hold of Campbell, catching him off guard, and he tries to throw. Campbell at this point is trying to wrestle free of VanderVeekens' grip, however despite weaving about he struggles to get free and throw anything in retaliation. Whilst Campbell is trying to weave himself free VanderVeeken lands one maybe two small shots on Campbell. VanderVeeken then tries to throw another but with Campbell still bobbing and weaving he misses and falls forwards onto the ice. At this point Campbell has VanderVeeken by the collar and he could have really hammered him but to his credit he refuses to throw a punch and instead lets the linos come in.
In the end it was a pretty poor fight with VanderVeeken surprising Campbell by catching him off guard and not allowing him to get set. Nevertheless despite getting the jump VanderVeeken did very well at keeping Campbell at arms left and managing to land a couple of soft shots. Despite the fact VanderVeeken ended up on his knees he takes the win as Campbell never really landed anything of note during the fight and he then chose not to throw a punch when VanderVeeken was in a hopeless situation on the ice.

| It was an okay fight. Jamie throws all of the punches and blocks Campbell very well. Try's to throw a haymaker on Campbell at the end but slips and falls to the ice. |
