Nilan throws a hit on Jonathan against the boards in the Boston end. Jonathan comes off the boards with a half-hearted swipe at him as Nilan skates away up ice with the play. Jonathan follows him all the way up ice and they come together in the corner in the Boston end.
Nilan tries to get his right going early but Jonathan is able to duck and pull to avoid it. Jonathan has a good grip and Nilan comes up short with a few more rights. Jonathan was unable to get going in this fight because Nilan had a good grip on Jonathan's right hand. So much so, that Jonathan had difficulty even grabbing onto Nilan with his right. Nilan tried to throw a few more rights that come up short. The linesmen then jump in, ending the fight prematurely. Nilan tried to sneak a few late shots in as the linesmen intervened.
Nilan was more active but failed to land while Jonathan never got going. Draw. |
 BattleshipRules 2072 fight reviews Sep 12, 2012 20:12 ET | Chris Nilan narrow win | Fun 4 |
Chris Nilan never hesitated in taking on the toughest fighters in the NHL. On this occasion, he had a go with rugged power puncher Stan Jonathan. The two men tangled along the boards, established grips, and prepared for hand-to-hand combat.
Nilan established a solid grip on Jonathan's right hand. Stan was unable to uncork any blows in the bout. Chris threw some sporadic right hands. He missed the target with his first couple of offerings. Nilan appeared to land two decent right hands at close range. Chris missed with two final blows as the referees were breaking up the men.
I think that Nilan deserves the narrow win in this bout. It appeared to me that he landed a couple of decent shots in the middle of the brief fight. Jonathan was unable to even get a shot off. Nilan was busier and landed just enough to eke out a narrow victory. Stan would have a much better performance in the rematch later in the game. |

| Nilan checked Jonathan hard into the boards in the Bruins zone. Bruins went on a counterattack and Jonathan checked Nilan into the boards in the Canadiens zone. Nilan missed an uppercut and Jonathan was pressing Nilan backwards. The zebras came in just as Nilan threw a couple of more rights, all narrowly missing. No punches landed. |

| Chris Nilan puts a hit on Stan Jonathan along the boards and Jonathan doesn't like it, taking a swing at Nilan as he backs off. Play goes down the ice and Jonathan follows Nilan. They get tangled up in the corner and neither hesitates to drop the gloves. They get a grip of each other in close and Nilan narrowly misses two rights. They pause and then Nilan throws two rights, landing one. They get some separation from each other but the linesmen choose to step in. They start to break up the fight as Nilan barely misses two more rights. Boring, dull, fight. Nilan threw the only punches and landed just one. Jonathan only held on and just wrestled. Slight edge to Nilan. |

| Nilan throws a couple punches but does not look to connect while all Jonathan does is hold on. Draw in a crappy fight. |

| I hate calling fights a draw. In this one I thought Nilan landed a couple noogies on the side of Jonathan's head and also landed a couple weak one's when the refs came in. I give Nilan the slight edge in this one. |

| Nilan a few times sluggish struck his opponent, and fighting ended. |

These guys go for round two. They drop the gloves and square off at center ice. They glare at each other and come to grips in the Montreal end. Once they lock up Jonathan looks like he's going for one of his patented takedowns, but Nilan is able to wrestle out of it. They then grapple briefly before Jonathan tries to sneak in a few quick rights. Nilan responds with a left as he pushes Jonathan against the boards. They then wrestle with Nilan trying to sneak in a few rights. Jonathan is able to duck Nilan's right hands and sets himself up to counter, first with a right, then with a left.
They again grapple and Nilan pokes in a right. Both fighters have control of each others arms and are face to face with each other. Nilan tries another right before Jonathan counters with a right and then switches up to his left. He lands a good shot that catches Nilan as he was coming in with a right. Jonathan tries to fire a few more lefts while Nilan scrambles to reset himself and regain a good hold. Nilan is quickly able to tie up Jonathan's left and reset himself. He then decides to hold on until the linesmen get in and end the fight.
Good fight with Jonathan getting the narrow win in a close one. Jonathan was able to switch hands effectively and landed the best punch of the fight. |

| Stan Jonathan and Chris Nilan meet up and decide to have a rematch after their first fight didn't really get going before the linesmen got in. Nilan and Jonathan square up and then get a grip of each other. They get in close and Jonathan right away grabs onto Nilan's pants. They wrestle and Jonathan misses three rights before missing a right as Nilan opens up and lands a left. Jonathan lands a right as Nilan switches hands and then Nilan misses a right. Jonathan gets pushed against the boards but lands a right as Nilan gets slightly turned around. Nilan turns back towards Jonathan and gets in close. Jonathan misses a right, switches hands, and lands a left as Nilan misses a right. Jonathan misses a left and they get in close and resume wrestling. Nilan lands a right and is then directed to the boards by Jonathan but Nilan manages to keep off then. Nilan lands a right, then misses a right while Jonathan misses a right. Then Jonathan switches hands and misses a left while Nilan misses a right. Nilan then misses a right as Jonathan lands a left and then Jonathan misses two lefts, one of them being blocked by Nilan. They wrestle and Nilan lowers his head. The linesmen see that both are tired and enter in to break up the fight. Pretty good tussle between these two tough customers. Jonathan landed better punches and got the win in this round. |
 BattleshipRules 2072 fight reviews Apr 17 09:27 ET | Stan Jonathan narrow win | Fun 6 |
Nilan and Jonathan had a lengthy fight. Both guys were able to get effective grips in the contest and this mitigated the effects of the punches a bit. Thus, there were not any real big shots that connected. It was an interesting strategic infighting contest.
Stan landed a solid uppercut on the inside and missed with a right hand. Nilan missed with a left. Jonathan missed a punch, landed a partial connect, and landed a decent left hook. Chris missed with a couple of rights.
Jonathan missed a left and landed a decent right. He missed with his next punch. Nilan landed a decent right and missed a punch. Chris missed a couple of rights and landed a decent blow. Stan missed a right, landed a decent left hook, and landed a partial connect.
I rate this as a narrow win for Jonathan. Nilan had a grip on his arms and kept Stan's punches from doing a lot of damage. Still, Stan landed several more punches along the way and there was no doubt that he was the winner. Chris had trouble with his accuracy in the bout and did not land many effective blows. Jonathan's strong grip was a factor in the outcome of the fight. |
Cairns 97 fight reviews Feb 19, 2009 10:52 ET | Stan Jonathan narrow win | Fun 5 |
The second fight of the game for these two and the third within a two year time frame. A very techniqual fight in which Jonathan would wait for Nilan to throw a right and duck it then throw his lefts. Jonathan landed two real nice lefts on the button and a couple other decent shots while Nilan landed a couple grazing shots. Jonathan gets the win in this one.
Too bad Jonathan got traded later on as these two would have had a great rivalry. |

They square off at center ice they grab on and get in tight on each other. Nilan lands one then Jonathan comes back with 2 as Nilan wrestles Jonathan against the boards. Nilan misses 2 rights then Jonathan lands a right. They both then miss. They wrestle around for about 15 seconds before the refs get in and break them apart.
Jonathan gets the edge for landing a pretty good punch early and out landing Nilan. |

michiann Mar 9, 2010 15:02 ET | Throughout this fight, both players threw punches tit-for-tat, thus it was an even fight. Jonathan did throw the last 2 punches but only 1 connected. The circumstances here lead me to say draw-to-narrow win for jonathan. | Reply |
