racersno5clackson Mar 15, 2009 18:19 ET | I don't see this brawl quite the same way that the poster Junior does here below. A line brawl has broken out in this game with every player on the ice, except for the goalies, involved in the festivities. Both teams have their muscle on the ice, and the main participants in the brawl are Larry Robinson and Chris Nilan of the Canadiens, and Paul Mulvey and Alan Hangsleben of the Capitals. For whatever reason, the Capitals had 6 players on the ice during this melee. Alan Hangsleben and Larry Robinson have dropped the gloves and are initially just holding on to one another, while Paul Mulvey and Chris Nilan are paired off with each other. Hangsleben and Robinson are looking more and more as if they´re about to start fighting. A Capitals player, whom I don't recognize (actually Wes Jarvis, I think), tries to come the aid of Hangsleben, but is held at bay by a Montreal player. Then Robinson starts throwing punches at Hangsleben and at this point Paul Mulvey lets go of Nilan and comes in as a third man in the Robinson-Hangsleben altercation. He does not, however, as Junior wrote, jump Robinson from behind, but simply intervenes and tries to tie up Big Larry. He doesn't even attempt to throw a punch at Robinson. While all this is going on, one of the linesmen is holding on to Nilan. So now Robinson and Mulvey are paired off with each other and they wrestle a bit. Hangsleben is left without a partner, but not for long because in an apparent state of confusion the zebra lets go of Nilan and the latter wastes no time to immediately skate up to and blatantly suckerpunch the unsuspecting Hangsleben from behind. Hangsleben falls down to the ice and Nilan punches him one more time. Then a Capitals player, Jim McTaggart, jumps on Nilan´s back and starts punching him and everybody piles in, and it all becomes just one big mess of players in a heap on the ice by the end boards. I sure would love to see the box-score to this game. | Reply |

Each team has one or two extra skaters on the ice when Chris Nilan triggers a melee by going after Jim McTaggart. Larry Robinson intercepts Alan Hangleben as the latter tries to get in on the action. Robinson is quite forceful and knocks Hangsleben down in the process. Hangsleben doesn't appreciate being manhandled and, when he regains his footing, he and Robinson grab each other by the collars in a confrontation which becomes increasingly serious. First, the two players engage one another in a test of strength, then words are exchanged, and finally the fight gets underway with a right hand from Robinson which appears to connect.
The Caps' Paul Mulvey probably over-reacts as he immediately grabs Robinson. Hangsleben, meanwhile, throws two punches at Robinson that don't appear to land, but it's hard to be certain. Nilan then clocks Hangsleben with a blatant sucker punch from the side, and follows that up with a second blow. At this point, the Capital bench gives an indication that they are about to come onto the ice, but they do not. McTaggart piles on Nilan, followed by several other players from both teams.
As order is being restored, Nilan and Mulvey engage in some sour dialogue with the linesmen in between. While the Robinson- Hangsleben fight didn't amount to much, the over-all skirmish was fairly spirited. |

| hard to say if I can even call a winner. These two pair up during a big scrum. Robinson lands 1 punch, and a cap starts to grab him. As this goes on, Nilan comes in from behind and drills Hangsleben with a clean suckerpunch, dropping him! From there, everyone pigpiles. |

| Video starts with Robinson & Hangsleben grabbing each other hard by the collars. Robinson loses patience with all the collar-grabbing, so he explodes in a fury when he throws a punch. Robinson facially connected with 1 punch. Hangsleben countered with 1 hard jersey-jab and then motions with his arm but it may not have been a swing although a 3rd-party body partially blocks the view. Their bout concludes when Nilan sneaks 1 roundhouse facial-punch on Hangsleben that crumbles Hangsleben. Nilan belted him again with 1 facial-punch while Hangsleben was in mid-flight during his drop to the ice. just after Hangsleben hits the ice, the refs rush in. Call it a narrow win for Robinson amidst the interference by Nilan. |

michiann 3436 fight reviews Aug 24, 2012 02:06 ET | Hangsleben is fighting with Robinson , and then all of a sudden, Nilan swings around the crowd and lands 1 roundhouse facial-punch that Hangsleben never saw, sending Hangsleben down to the ice. Midway in his dropping to the ice, Nilan facially-punches him again ... then a crowd ensues and that's when the video ends. Underrated brawl because there was good action here even though Nilan was connecting on sneaky punches. | Dirty 8 | Emotion N/A |

| Tremblay dropped McTaggart (not a tko), Nilan and Mulvey never did get to each other, and Larry Robinson drilled Hangsleben after a long sweater pull, and then Mulvey jumped Larry from behind causing everyone to pile in. |
