Apr 7, 2006 05:08 ET | Messier was suspended 10 games by the NHL for cracking Jamie Macoun's cheekbone in this fight. Messier was retaliating for having been boarded by Macoun earlier in the game, but the NHL ruled that he had instigated the fight. The suspension was announced on Jan. 14, 1985, and Messier did not return to action until Edmonton's Feb. 6, 1985, game at Winnipeg. | Reply |

Jan 7, 2012 01:17 ET | Messier got a fighting major for clocking Macoun after being taken into the boards by Macoun. Messier explained his actions by stating: "I just snapped". Should probably be a cheapshot, as it was a sucker-punch from behind on Macoun, who wasn't penalized and was sent to snoozy land by Messier, who got a 10 game vacation by the NHL. | Reply |
