 BattleshipRules 2092 fight reviews Aug 26, 2012 14:32 ET | Chris Nilan clear win | Fun 6 |
Chris Nilan was a local guy from West Roxbury, MA. He played his college hockey at Northeastern University. Chris loved to get into fights whenever he played against his hometown Bruins. On this occasion, Nilan was the favorite going into the bout with undersized, but brave, Nevin Markwart.
Nilan got the early strategic edge by grabbing a hold of Nevin's arm at the right bicep. Markwart tried to land some shots, but he came up a little short with his attempts because he could not fight through the grip Chris had on his arm.
Nilan started to work the right hand. Chris was a good infighter who generated good power with hooks and uppercuts. Nilan started the scoring with a partially connecting right hook. Chris landed a solid uppercut. Markwart threw a couple of right hands that fell short of the target by a few inches. Nilan missed with a couple of follow up rights.
Chris continued to pound away with the right hand. He showed how he got the nickname "Knuckles" Nilan in this bout. He landed three decent overhand rights. Then, Chris went underneath and landed a big uppercut that shook Nevin. Chris missed with a punch. Then, he landed two more decent rights. The officials started to break up the fight after Markwart got drilled by the big uppercut.
I rate this as a clear win for Nilan. He landed a crunching uppercut that shook Markwart. He also landed some pretty good blows and some decent punches. Nevin was unable to land anything in return, although he tried to launch several punches. I don't think Nevin was in a hopeless position at the end, although he was in a bit of trouble and I can understand a decisive win verdict. |

| Video shows both guys already engaged. What we do see is Nilan landing 6 facial-punches, a combination of uppercuts & sidearm shots. Nilan also was able to prevent Markwart's arm from launching any swings ... so Markwart was shut-out from landing anything. Nilan was very atypical in this fight because usually he fights close-in while trying to land his punches. So, in this fight against Markwart, I guess he was very confident which made him get into an open swingout style here. Decisive win since the refs saw that Markwart was in trouble. |

Smerri May 5, 2007 11:28 ET | Apparently Middleton had to pick his teeth up off the ice. Unsure if this is true because I have never seen the clip. | Reply |
Hurls34 Nov 25, 2007 15:39 ET | I was at this game, they were both jostlin with the sticks up. Nilan claims Middleton high sticked him, which judging by the way the sticks were up in the replay - I wouldn't doubt. Since it was Nilan, who takes everything, even accidential high sticks personally, he hauled off and butt ended Middleton in the mouth and you do see teeth hitting the ice. Nilan claims he meant to hit him with his glove... which I could also see the way it played out, but still got him with the stick.
I was actually in the runway when he came off the ice. His wife asked him if he was okay, he turned to her and smiled ala Bobby Clarke.
Legend has it that Nilan and Middleton acutally went out to dinner the night before this happened. Remind me to ask them if this is true the next time I bump into either of them. | Reply |
