| Quick fight. They dropped them, wrestled a few seconds before Tocchet landed a few lefts to the helmet of Smith. Smith threw a couple rights of his own but looked like they missed. Smith fell down to his knees and linesmen quickly jumped in. Narrow win Tocchet for landing only punches. |

srehm1 358 fight reviews Jan 4, 2009 17:35 ET | Dave Brown clear win | Fun 5 |
Behind the play in the Montreal end, Brown and Nilan come together. When the camera gets there, Nilan pulls Brown in close and buries his head into his chest. Brown pumps in an uppercut and Nilan sheds his left glove, which was still on. Brown fires another uppercut that misses which prompts a response from Nilan as he fires a big right that just misses it's mark.
Brown, with his left now free, rears back to fire away. Nilan, knowing Brownie's left is loose, falls to his knees. Brown fires two big lefts that seem to score and is pulled down by the falling Nilan. He then sneaks in another left before the linesmen get in and end it.
This was a fairly quick fight. There is no replay, but I get the feeling Brown got the jump on Nilan. Nilan may not have wanted to go at that particular time, but Brown left him no choice. Brownie's shoot first, ask questions later approach is evident by Nilan still having a glove on part way through the fight. The announcer also says Brown should get the instigator while he's gathering his effects in the penalty box. Nilan seemed like he wanted to end it quick with that right. Once that didn't happen, it was over. Clear win Brown. |

| Fight is right after the face-off. Brown gets the left hand pumping and lands some lefts. Nilan gets Brown in tight and tries to neutralize Brown's left, and is only able to do so for a few seconds. Brown is able to get his left loose and proceeds to pummel Nilan to the ice with some hard lefts. The linesmen have to intervene to prevent Nilan from being killed. Decisive win for Brown. |

 BattleshipRules 2422 fight reviews Jun 6 15:30 ET | Daryl Stanley clear win | Fun 7 |
Stanley and Corson slugged it out on the inside. Daryl landed an average blow and a couple of solid connects. Shayne landed a partial connect and missed a couple of right hands. Stanley landed an average right. Corson landed a decent left hook and an average right.
Corson landed a decent right hand and missed a punch. Stanley switched to throwing left hooks. He landed an average blow and a couple of solid connects. Shayne landed an average right. Daryl went back to throwing rights. He missed a punch and landed a couple of average blows. He gave Corson a bit of a facewash. He landed a couple of decent blows. Shayne was frustrated in attempts to get a right hand off. Stanley had a good grip on his right arm. Corson wrestled him to the ice and this ended the contest.
I rate this as a clear win for Stanley. He landed more blows and with better pop. Daryl did a superior job of switching hands and establishing a grip on Corson's right arm. These were the keys to his victory. |

| Stanley landed 6 punches to the face of Corson and then an additional 4 punches off the melon of Corson ... totaling 10 facial/head punches by Stanley. Corson had at most only 1 or 2 punches and its not clear even if these punches landed. |

  BattleshipRules 2422 fight reviews May 2 15:40 ET | Chris Nilan narrow win | Fun 6 |
Nilan was taking on one of the very best fighters in the NHL in power punching lefty Dave Brown. Chris landed a partial connect with a right hand. Brown landed a decent left uppercut and missed with a right hook. Nilan decided to crowd Dave on the inside. He was unable to get off for a long spell.
Brown landed a partial connect and a solid left hook. Dave landed a decent blow and a partial connect. Brown had built up a lead at this point in the fight. Nilan looked a bit listless as Dave was thinking about offense. Chris had the ability to play possum and lull an opponent to sleep. He subtlety got Dave's left hand in an armlock. Then, Chris switched to throwing lefts.
Brown was unable to respond for awhile. Chris landed a decent blow and a solid blow. He landed a decent shot and a good left that rocked Dave. The camera angle did not effectively convey what had happened next. The men traded a couple more punches before the refs stopped the contest.
I rate this as a narrow win for Nilan. Brown had the lead by virtue of controlling the action in the first half of the bout. Chris came back with a good rally and landed the best punch of the bout. I think Nilan deserves the nod based on landing the big shot, but I think it should be regarded as a narrow win because Brown fought so effectively in the early part of the contest.
Nilan was one of the best pound-for-pound fighters of his era. He was a small heavyweight who often gave up size and weight in taking on the toughest guys around. He took some lumps early in his career as he didn't have the experience to beat O'Reilly, Jonathan, and Secord in his early years in the NHL. He was a fast learner and he combined good punching power for his size, clever boxing, and the ability to generate power with both hands.
Nilan's win over Brown was impressive. Dave was considered the heavyweight champ of the NHL by some observers. He was certainly one of the top three in the NHL for several years. Nilan put some hurt on one of the best fighters of the 1980's. Chris was one of the best guys I've seen in looking listless and turning the tables on a guy. Nilan lulled Brown to sleep and was able to tie up his left his just long enough to crank off some very effective lefts of his own. Chris landed the more powerful punches which was no small feat against a big power puncher like Brown.
Nilan was a top NHL fighter for several years in the 1980's. He had several impressive wins over top NHL heavyweights. His rivalry with Larry Playfair was a good barometer of his abilities. On some occasions, Playfair was too much for him. Chris was always a live underdog, even against the big monsters of the league. He beat Larry handily in one bout and proved that he was a dangerous man who could never be taken lightly. |
 srehm1 358 fight reviews Jan 4, 2009 18:00 ET | Chris Nilan clear win | Fun 7 |
This fight is a rematch of their earlier go. This time Nilan is ready to go. When the camera gets there, they are grappling up against the Flyers bench. Nilan comes up short with a right. Brown twists away from the bench and misfires with an uppercut. Nilan then grazes Brown with a left. He winds up overthrowing with this punch and ends up in an awkward position with his back completely turned to Brown. Brown fires a rare right that misses over the top. Brown switches up just in time to still catch the badly turned Nilan. He lands a big left to the chest. His second left glances off Nilan's shoulder and catches helmet. Nilan finally rights himself and squares up with Brown. Nilan then tries to keep it in close as they grapple. He misfires with a quick left and Brown misses with a left in return.
Nilan then comes back with a series of left hands. The first just falls short. Brown then stuffs a quick left in of his own. Nilan then catches Brown with a solid shot with the second left. This shot rattles Brown's helmet which begins to fall off. Nilan then attempts a short left and then grabs on to adjust his grip. He then connects with another good left off the top of Brown's now helmetless head. Brown then forces Nilan up against the Montreal bench. As he does Nilan lands a great uppercut that snaps Brown's head back and straightens his hair.
They then wrestle up against the Montreal bench. The camera is at a bad angle and fans block the view. What is clear is Brown getting struck hard by another Nilan left hand and again gets his hair straightened. Brown then misses wildly over the top with a left of his own in an attempt to stem the tide. The next few seconds are blocked by fans and the poor camera angle. The camera angle changes and Nilan has Brown forced up against the Montreal bench. Nilan tries to loop a right in over the top, but comes up short. The linesmen jump in and end it.
Clear win, Nilan. Nilan landed at least 3 good, flush shots in this one including a beauty of an uppercut. Brown didn't land much in return and Nilan avenges his loss earlier in the game. Got to give Nilan credit for beating Brown with the left in this fight. |

This is an unfair fight .... but where is the "Fight-not-fair" button? I cannot find it. Starts when Carson performs an absolute mugging when he attacks Corson from the side or back of him. Anyway, Corson sees him coming the very last second and just didn't have time to re-act. Carson deliberately did it this way because it's the only way he can defeat Corson, and that's when he (Corson) is unprepared.
Anyway, Carson facially-connected 4 times before both guys go down to their knees where the refs break them up. Corson was stifled by the sneak-attack, hence, he could never set up in order to throw a punch. |

RedWingsWereTough Oct 14, 2008 15:18 ET | Now wait just a minute!!! Did Mullet get pre-approval to review this fight from Corson27? Surely, the criteria laid out in the "Corson27 Doctrine" which states that there must be at least 17 camera angles of the fight in crystal clear HD as well as eye-witness testimony from Shayne Corson himself describing the fight in detail and acknowledging a draw and/or loss in order for one to be tacked on to his ledger... furthermore, any draw or loss on Corson's record must be called "Unfair" until such time as both of these criteria have been met | Reply |
