In his first battle of the night, Chris Nilan gets involved with Mike Foligno. They get in tight and wrestle. Nilan knocks off Foligno's helmet with a right. More wrestling takes place and Foligno misses with a decent left. Nilan buries his head in Foligno's chest and the wrestling continues. Nilan then connects with a left. As the two hug and don't throw any more punches, the linesmen move in.

Neither player did enough for a win so this is a draw.

Disappointing fight, but typical Foligno wrestling match. They danced around with death grips on each other. Nilan had his head in Foligno's chest during the entire fight and could not see. He tried to weak lefts. Foligno threw one big left that missed. Draw in a pretty crappy fight.

I looked it up and the summary from TS says Maloney, so I changed it back.

If someone was at this game or has a video, please tell us who fought Mike Foligno at this time.

I think it was Maloney not Nilan because the two fights below this one happened at the same time just two minutes later and there's no way Nilan could have two fights in two minutes.Reply

The Rangers want after Mike Hartman for some reason. Mark Hardy mixes it up with Hartman. Ron Greschner quickly gets involved and he and Hartman have a brief fight. Everyone else is paired off but they all seem content to just skate around and do little. The only players that do anything are Lindy Ruff and Chris Nilan. As things begin to calm down, Nilan goes after Ruff chasing him down. Ruff obliges Nilan and they have a decent fight. By the time they are separated no one else is paired off. Fun

A big fracas erupts after a whistle in the Rangers zone. Players pair off and the first to go at it are Mike Hartman and Ron Greschner. They grab each other and get in tight, However they quickly fall down to the ice before any punches can be thrown. The linesmen come in to separate them. Meanwhile Lindy Ruff and Chris Nilan begin to fight and that scrap is much better.

Draw no punches were thrown in this brief fight.

Chris Nilan win by TKO Fun

Chris Nilan and Lindy Ruff renew hostilities in this game between the Rangers and the Sabres at MSG, after the many wars they were involved in when they were division rivals while Nilan was a Canadien.

Chris Nilan seems to be the instigator here as he initially more or less chases Ruff down the ice. Ruff is skating backwards with his gloves off. They lock on and Ruff starts rag dolling Nilan, who loses his balance and goes down to a knee. Before that Nilan tries to throw a couple of punches, neither of which connects. Ruff misses with one as well. They both tumble to the ice, with Ruff on the bottom. They quickly get up. Then Lindy connects with the first punch of the bout, a right which sends Nilan´s helmet flying.

After that they wrestle for five seconds. Nilan then tries to throw a right but comes up short again. They go toe-to-toe momentarily, and Ruff with his longer reach gets the better of the exchange and lands a couple. Nilan has to turn away his head to avoid the punches.

Then they wrestle for an additional five seconds and Ruff gets Nilan´s sweater over his head and it slides all the way over his head, which enables Chris to get a clear view of what he is aiming for with his punches and he connects with his only punch of this fight, an upper cut which lands cleanly on Ruff's face and Lindy goes down. Fight over.

Very hard fight to call correctly. Lindy Ruff was clearly winning the fight before that last shot from Nilan. But I think I'm going to have to go with a TKO win for Chris Nilan in this one.

Chris Nilan win by TKO Fun

After one fight is over another begins as Ruff and Nilan decide to go and they start circling each other. Nilan connects with a couple short rights to start then they lose their balance and fall to the ice but they get back up and keep going. Ruff knocks off Nilan's helmet with a short right and they keep wrestling but Ruff gets loose and starts landing some good rights on Nilan. Ruff pulls Nilan's jersey over his head but it comes up over his shoulders anyway. Nilan lands a short uppercut and Ruff falls to the ice ending the fight.

Changed my call. It was clear after watching it again Ruff went down after Nilan landed a short right thereby making this a TKO. Ruff was doing better but ended up being dropped at the end.

During a brawl, Lindy Ruff pairs off with Chris Nilan and they squareoff. They get a grip of their opponent's sweater and Nilan throws three rights, one connecting. Then Nilan loses his balance as Ruff stands back but Ruff goes down too. They get up and Ruff lands a right that takes off Nilan's helmet. They wrestle in tight and Nilan misses a right then they stand back. Nilan misses a right as Ruff lands a right that stuns Nilan. Ruff throws three rights afterwards and lands one as Nilan feels his face. Ruff then pulls the sweater over Nilan's head but it comes off. Nilan then connects with a right that puts Ruff on his knees and the linesmen jump in afterwards. Alright tussle. TKO Nilan. Ruff stunned Nilan with a right but Nilan was able to make a comeback and drop Ruff to end the fight.

Chris Nilan VS Lindy Ruff March 22nd 1988

In a very spirited matchup between the New York Rangers and the Buffalo Sabres, a brawl unfolds and away from the action, Lindy Ruff and Chris Nilan come together as their gloves are already off.

Nilan hunts down Ruff quickly and the two grab on and waste no time.

Nilan lands a right hand at the very beginning and throws another one that doesn't make connection. Ruff then takes a wild swing at Nilan with his right hand that makes connection near the back of the head, as Nilan appears to be falling to the ice.

Nilan then gets back up, and in the process drops Ruff to the ice, and Nilan continues to wrestle him while they are down. The linesman do not step in at this point and let them continue as they both get back up. As they get back up, Ruff lands a very nice right hand to the head of Nilan as they wrestle around some more.

Nilan then lands a nice right hand but Ruff comes right back and fires two more right hands, one is a bomb that hits Nilan pretty good and shakes him up quite a bit. Ruff continues to throw another right hand as well as Nilan just hangs on and hopes for the best.

They wrestle around some more and Ruff gets the jersey up over the head of Chris Nilan who is hanging on tight. Nilan then manages to squeeze in an uppercut that makes good connection and sends Ruff down to the ice.

Final Decision,

TKO Win for Chris Nilan.
