Chris Nilan clear win Fun

Not the greatest performance from Secord here, but an interesting fight as these had a rivalry that was nearly ten years old at this point in time. Nilan is pretty much the only one active here, with Secord trying desperatley to stay in tight, keep his head buried in Nilan's chest, and hold onto Nilan's arms. Most of the shots being thrown by either guy are mostly short punches to the side of the helmet/head. About halfway though the fight takes a turn when Nilan manages to sneak in a couple hard lefts, then switches to his right and catches Secord pretty good with an uppercut. Looks at this point that Al has had enough and grabs and Nilan's pants, looking to knock him down, but Nilan uses that opportunity to start pounding on that back of Secord's skull. Finally Secord looks to have enough and throws a nasty looking headbutt at Nilan, who starts yelling at the refs. Then they slip and both go down to the ice. This fight was all Nilan, and near the end Secord just looked pitiful and frustrated, prompting the headbutt.

Pretty long fight, a lot of wrestling. Nilan clearly landed more and better. Secord headbutted him in the end and Nilan yelled to the linesman did you see that before pulling Secord to the ice. Win Nilan.

Nilan barely gets the clear win since he landed 4 facial-punches while Secord landed 2. Also, Secord was the one that was keeping in tight so that he didn't have to face Nilan while keeping his face embedded in Nilan's chest. Secord also head-butts him.

Dave Manson clear win Fun

This fight happened near the end of the game. The Rangers had dumped the puck into the Chicago zone, and a Chicago player had the puck behind the net. Nilan was skating towards the goal, and Chicago goalie Alain Chevrier brought his stick up, to keep Nilan at a distance from the goal. Nilan brought his stick up and hit Chevrier on the side of his mask, inciting the Hawks, who began chasing him back up the ice. The Rangers and linesmen began to intercept them and most of the players paired off. After an unsuccessful Keith Brown attempt to get to at Nilan, Manson arrived on the scene near the boards in the neutral zon, with only linesman Ron Asselstine separating them. Manson grabbed the linesman by the arm and threw him aside, charging at Nilan. Manson threw two or three short rights to the side of Nilan's face, before Nilan grabbed him and held on along the boards. Nilan threw no punches and apparently had no intention of fighting, holding on while Manson struggled to get loose, until the linesmen arrived to break things up.

Crap fight, not much here, Manson throws a few punches, Nilan the second half fighter is being patient. linesmen moved in before things really have a chance to develop. Manson isnt going to beat a good fighter like Nilan at this stage in Nilan's career.

Nilan hits the Hawks goalie with his stick. Manson goes after Nilan, they drop them, Manson lands one or two at the start, then they just wrestle, Nilan didn't look very interested and the linesmen stepped in.

Manson goes after nilan but only lands 1 punch while nilan ducked down very low which made it seem like he went down from a punch. Can only give it a narrow win for manson.

Manson was handed a suspension and was ordered to miss three games for pushing linesman Ron Asselstine while fighting with Chris Nilan. Manson had instigated a fight with Nilan in retaliation for Nilan's earlier hit on Chicago goaltender Alain Chevrier. As Manson tried to get to Nilan, he pushed Asselstine out of his way. That led to an automatic three game suspension that was not subject to appeal. As a result of the suspension, Manson did not return to action until Chicago's Oct. 17, 1989 game at N.Y. Rangers.Reply
