Larry Robinson clear win Fun

This fight breaks out along the Canadien bench. Robinson gets the edge with some hard rights and continues to pound Sleigher even when he's down on the ice. Something tells me Robinson was still sore about Sleigher's sucker punch on Jean Hamel from a few years back.

Patrick Roy is heading back into his net when Louis Sleigher just cleans Roy's clock with a shoulder to chest hit. Roy flew back and hit the ice hard, losing his mask in the process. Larry Robinson fought Sleigher as Roy was attended to. Huge hit by Sleigher. Clean hit because he hit Roy in the chest, not the head, and everything else was legal. Massive impact. Fun

That's what should happen to goalies that tend to roam out of their crease, but then again, that's what teammates should also when an opposing player hits their goalie leaving the crease.Reply

Louis Sleigher narrow win Fun
6
In his excellent and recently published book THE GAME, former Montreal goaltender Ken Dryden suggested that Larry Robinson carried himself like royalty on ice - and that the Boston Bruins and Philadelphia Flyers treated him with kindness and respect. There is no doubt that Louie Sleigher targeted Robinson in the opening game of the '85-86 playoffs. First, Sleigher caught Robinson with a blatant elbow to the side of his head, while the Montreal defenceman was engaged with another Bruin. Then, after running Patrick Roy, Sleigher can be seen stopping up and saying "let's go" to Robinson.

There's no doubt that some members of the Bruin family had had enough of King Larry. The only question is this: did Sleigher, a little guy with a big left hand, take it on himself to go after Robinson or did Harry Sinden and/or Butch Goring make a special request to him? Robinson won round one, body slamming Sleigher to the ice with authority. Round two begins with Robinson missing with a left hand. The two players then get in at close quarters. Robinson fires off five straight right hands, with two apparently landing. Sleigher counters with four consecutive lefts, and also appears to find the mark with two.

The linesmen then move in. For whatever reason, the linesman responsible for Robinson positions himself to the side of the Canadiens' defenceman, instead of squaring up between he and Sleigher. This, combined with the laissez faire attitude of referee Bryan Lewis, allows Robinson to poke away at Sleigher while the latter is being restrained on the ice by the second linesmen. While the players were toe-to-toe, however, Sleigher's punches were more telling than Robinson's. Sleigher bounced back from Robinson's blows, whereas Robinson appeared to be bailing as a result of two Sleigher lefts.

Louis Sleigher catches Patrick Roy roaming behind the net and levels him with a check sending him to the ice in a heap. He then drops his gloves and gets ready for Larry Robinson, the two trade some good shots, but Robinson outmuscles Sleigher and pounds him to the ice.

Robinson throws an uppercut but i don't think it ever landed. Then, robinson lands the first punch of the fight. This is followed by sleigher landing 2 solid punches that made robinson want to end the fight since he throws sleigher down to the ice. Robinson then threw punches while sleigher was down but the refs already moved in, so these punches don't count.

The linesmen do a poor and uneven job of breaking up this fight, leaving Robinson standing over and taking pokes at a pinned Sleigher. This gives the false impression that Robinson was in control. In fact, during the actual fighting, Sleigher delivered the only two blows of any consequence - a pair of left hands - and should be given credit for a narrow decision.Reply

The two grapple before Nilan nails Linseman with a roundhouse left with his gloves on. As soon as this happens, McPhee and Crowder go toe-to-toe taking center stage. As they tangle, Nilan and Linseman continue to hack at eachother with their sticks, but that's about it.

Keith Crowder narrow win Fun

With the right mix of players on the ice anything can happen, case and point this scrum here. It starts with Linseman and Nilan yapping away at one another. Nilan throws a big roundhouse left that catches Linseman at the side of the head. As if taking it as a cue, Crowder and McPhee go at it in a classic toe to toe battle, both throwing like its the first round of a heavyweight fight. Meanwhile, Linseman and Nilan start swinging their sticks at one another. Good long fight here, prolonged by everyone on the ice paring off with one another including Milbury and Stephane Richter (which develops a little later). As all hell breaking loose, the refs almost forget about Crowder and McPhee, who, after throwing haymakers are left just wrestling with eachother before Crowder dumps McPhee with a leg trip to end the fight.

Stephane Richer clear win Fun

Another fight that breaks out during a long scrum which starts with Crowder and McPhee fighting and Linseman and Nilan swinging their sticks at eachother. From behind the net, Milbury and Richer start jawing. Milbury bascially laughs at Richer as the linseman steps in to break it up. But just as he does, Richter sucker punches Milbury with a quick right to the face. The two tangle and Milbury wrestles Richer to the ice easily pulling his jersey over his head, but makes the mistake of getting up from the ice too early. As he does, RIcher pulls out of his jersey and starts swinging with some quick rights catching Milbury off guard. The two fall to the ice. Richer than picks Milbury up by the shoulders and slams him face first into the ice again (a move that I'm sure would have been greeted with some kind of suspension in today's NHL standards). By the time the officials move in, Richer escapes from the pile pulling his jersey, shoulder pads and elbow pads off the ice as he heads to the box to which announcer Dave Shea quips something to the effect of "...Richer's gonna get down to his jock unless the refs step in."
