PandoraJam 29 fight reviews Nov 7, 2004 19:43 ET | Ed Hospodar decisive win Fight called Unfair by JruGordon on May 13, 2007 Reason: Claude Lemieux never intended to fight back | Fun 8 |
| Ed Hospodar and Glenn Resch wait after the pre-game warm-ups to make sure that the Habs don't do their pre-game ritual of shooting the puck into the opposing teams empty net before the game starts. After Hospodar and Resch leave the ice, Claude Lemieux and Shayne Corson jump onto the ice skate up to the flyers net and fire the puck in... Hospodar and Resch see this and jump back on the ice. Hospodar jumps Lemieux and starts giving it to him as Resch keeps Corson away... soon after both dressing rooms empty and you have yourself a good ol' pre-game bench brawl! |

| Lemieux gets the takedown at the end but before that just bends over and takes a thrashing as Hospodar fires 6 unanswered punches. Looked like Corson could have intervened if he really wanted to. |

Why the hell did he even bother heading back out onto the ice with him? What did he expect was going to happen? Who was he afraid of? Chico Resch? At least jump on Hospodar's back, why don't ya? | Reply |

Sadly, I have seen only the start of this event, but there was lot of true heavyweight action. 10 points for Hospodar and both teams. Classic hockey moment. | Fun 10 |

corson27 Jan 29, 2010 14:48 ET | After Dave Brown and Chris Nilan were done fighting and everything seemed to be calming down, Shayne Corson went after Don Nachbaur because he wasn't happy that Nachbaur had fought with Larry Robinson earlier in the brawl. Because of the camera being at a distance, it's hard to focus on what's happening, but from what I've read and know about this brawl, Corson attacked Nachbaur and they had a short but furious fight just as a bunch of other players from both teams converged on the 2 fighters and became a huge scrum. It was just after this broke out that John Kordic and Daryl Stanley went at it in another short but spirited encounter.
And I'm almost 100% postive that Rick Tocchet and Mike McPhee also fought in this brawl. I know that both of them were fined by the NHL for fighting in this brawl and in the footage of the brawl, you can see the both of them are tied up with each other every time they are shown on camera. | Reply |

corson27 Today 00:31 ET | Yeah, I don't know where Nazinator is coming from in his review here. The brawl was going on and you can hardly even see Nachbaur and Robinson going at it. There's a big scrum and all you can see is Big Bird pinning Snack up against the boards. Hardly any concrete footage whatsoever to make a review on this fight.
If nothing else, Junior (the other reviewer) is on the right track because I have read reported accounts of Robinson breaking Nachbaur's nose in this fight. So with the available footage and the knowledge of Nachbaur's nose being broken, at the very least, this fight is a draw and if anything, a win for Robinson if he did break Nachbaur's nose. So this review from Nazinator is very perplexing. | Reply |

 mullet 16774 fight reviews Feb 10, 2007 08:48 ET | Dave Brown narrow win | Fun 9 |
This was a long long fight, one of the longest fights ever, they went at it almost 3 minutes! After Brown finally gets to Nilan they start firing bombs at each other, Brown lefts and Nilan rights. Then they get in tight and wrestle for a while. Nilan then lands a left and tries another, but Brown muscles him down. They get back up, Nilan throws a left that doesn't seem to land and Brown seems to land a nice uppercut. Again they start hugging each other until Nilan throws a couple of rights to the side of Brown's head and Brown comes back with a few lefts of his own. Wrestling continues and it looks like they're done, but once again they start throwing. Brown lands a left to the back of Nilan's head, then they open up and both seem to land punch at the same time and Nilan ends up going down. Brown lands one or two when Nilan is down on his back. But they get back up again and Nilan right away lands two rights to the side of the head. Then they have finally had enough and they hold on and keep talking to each other before they separate by themselves.
I thought it was a great marathon fight and it sure didn't look onesided at all. I think they landed about the same, Brown maybe the better shots so I think he gets a narrow win. But you have to give a ton of credit to Nilan, remember, Brown was completely shirtless the whole time so there wasn't much to grab for Nilan, but he did a great job here. |
MarkV 398 fight reviews Feb 17, 2006 08:21 ET | Dave Brown narrow win | Fun 7 |
| During the brawl Dave Brown came out of the dressing room with no jersey, no shoulder or elbow pads. Nilan was already out there and Brown immediately went after him and challenged him. Nilan was unsure whether to fight him as he had nothing to hold on to and perhaps any implications for fighting BEFORE the game. Chelios came over and got in between them. Then Brown really got mad and finally got at Nilan. Both players threw punches although Nilan did well by not having anything to hold onto. |

| Long scrap Brown beat Nilan up no doubt but this went on for like five minutes not many punches thrown at the end as both were dead tired but the fight would stop and start up at many different points. |

| Considerations are in order before reviewing the actual fight. First, while Brown was fresh off the bench, Nilan was clearly frightened of him as he kept backing up away from him for a longggg time. Then the other canadians start wrestling with Brown which made Brown lose his wind while Nilan was just standing there. Then Brown finally gets loose from the mob-grappling but is clearly winded while Nilan has enough oxygen in his lungs to start grappling with him. Nilan wins the first round but only under the condition that Brown is still winded. Then they both dance around as Brown trys to regain his wind, and he does ... and thats when he pounds Nilan down to the ice with punches. So, Brown wins round 2. Hence, overall narrow win for Brown. |

corson27 Apr 27, 2008 22:08 ET | UriahHeep, I totally agree with you that Nilan should get a draw, and not because I'm a Habs' homer. For some reason, everyone always thinks that Brown beat Nilan in this one, but I always thought it was just an edge for Brown but the fact that Brown came on the ice with no jersey or shoulder pads on gave him a very unfair advantage, and Nilan was able to make it a close fight, so because of this, I've always considered this fight a draw under the circumstances. | Reply |
Hurls34 Aug 10, 2011 17:11 ET | Looks like Brown took exception to Nilan yapping at Kjell Samuelsson and giving him that extra shove. It appears that's what got him off the bench and onto the ice. | Reply |

DerDiggler May 26 22:33 ET | I think Nilan was auditioning for the Ice Capades for a little while here. Wanted no part of Brown. Please don't give me the lame excuse that he didn't want to fight Brown because he has no jersey. If that was the case, he wouldn't have acted so much tougher once he thought Brown was wrapped up by teammates. | Reply |

| After Brown and Nilan were done these two started going at it. Pretty good tilt, Kordic starts with a few lefts, then tries to take Stanley down, but can't do it. They start trading shots for a few seconds. Kordic seems to get the better of the exchange. Stanley falls to his knees, but gets back up and lands a couple of weak shots. Then they just wrestle. Edge Kordic. |

| I have the fight on tape. After body jostling back-n-forth, they both wind up throwing the fists. Kordic lands a few short facial-punches since they both were in tight on one another. Stanley lands 2 facial-punches. A pause .... then Kordic lands a couple of more facial-punches and so does Stanley. Then they both stop throwing them. |

| Not much. Fight was already in progress when the cameras got there, both players exchanged a wild punch each, Mellanby stumbled forward and went down to the ice, taking Momesso with him. The refs jump in to break them up, which is too bad because it looked like both guys got right back up, were still pissed and wanted to go. Could have been better, but oh well. We had already been treated to helluva brawl to start this game! |
