John Kordic win by TKO Fun
7
Kordic was one of the best tacticians in NHL. Many observers mistakenly view him as a guy who just relied on left-handed volume punching. Close analysis of his fights proved that he was a cerebral strategist who used his brain as much as his brawn to win bouts.

Kordic was duking it out with old foe Basil McRae. McRae was focused on establishing a grip over John's left shoulder. He had tasted his share of good lefts in previous encounters and Basil was very concerned about incoming fire. Kordic was able to get a good grip over Basil's right shoulder. This severely mitigated the impact of any blows coming from McRae during the bout.

John missed a few punches at the start. Basil landed a partial connect and missed a few blows. Kordic landed a decent left hook and landed a couple solid shots. He landed a partial connect, missed a punch, and landed a couple of decent blows.

McRae's offensive output was low. He did not get many punches off in the second half of the fight. Basil missed a left hand. John missed a couple of punches. Then, Kordic got uncharacteristically frustrated. Fighting McRae was an unpleasant energy sapping and time consuming experience. John tried to go for a takedown move to shorten the bout. He grabbed the leg strap, but Basil was too strong on his skates for this tactic to work.

Kordic and McRae were pinned along the boards. John landed a partial connect and a solid left. Basil landed a partial connect with a left hand. He did not switch to the right hand in the fight. McRae was usually good at switching hands, but it may be that he knew the consequences if John got more power on his lefts.

Kordic was aggressively tugging on the jersey above the right arm of McRae. Basil was a bit unsteady on his skates over the second half of the contest. John really wanted to get him on the ice as quick as he could. Kordic landed a good shot that did some damage. McRae craned his neck away. John landed another shot with pretty good pop and McRae slumped to the ice.

I rate this as a TKO win for Kordic. He had a big left that stunned McRae. He finished him off with a pretty good follow up blow. John had done some aggressive jersey tugging earlier in the fight, but the knockdown looked to be clean.

This was a good performance by Kordic in systematically breaking down a good heavyweight. Kordic was the total package. He had incredibly fast hands. He was great on his skates and his exceptional footwork contributed to many of his victories. John had good power, but he chose when to drop the hammer. When he followed through on his power punches, it was because he felt they could do optimum damage because of the element of surprise or an opponent that was in a weakened state.

Kordic deserves to be rated as one of the great fighters in NHL history. He has been disparaged by many because of his personal demons. Bob Probert had some of the same demons and he was able to continue to ply his trade for many years. John's game of Russian Roulette ended in disaster, but he deserves the utmost respect for what he accomplished with his fists.

They exchange punches and Koidic was trying to put McRae down by holding his shorts but in steed he get the left free and fire a couple of shots then gave a solid uppercut that puts McRae down but he get right back up still a tko win for Kordic.

They grab on, both jockeying for position to get loose to throw but both tying up the other guy pretty well. During the course of this wrestling match, Kordic does land an occaisional harmless left and Basil throws one or two very weak lefts. After nearly a minute of this waltzing, Kordic gets his left free and connects with a solid left hook to Basil's face that drops him.

Film-footage from a distance starts off with these 2 already engaged. The first-half of the fight shows Kordic is the more active of the two fighters but he seemed to be missing more with his swings than connecting. McRae is only periodically throwing connecting facial-punches ... everytime McRae swung, Kordic had already swang 5 times or more. 2nd half of the fight sees McRae picking up the pace with more frequent swinging while Kordic maintains his machine-gun swings but is connecting a bit more than in the first-half of the fight. Then, the close-up camera shows Kordic punching away and landing a tko-punch that sent McRae to the ice as the refs rush in. Total facial-punches: approximately 8 for Kordic while McRae had 2. Tko win for Kordic.

Not an entertaining fight at all. Mostly clutching in tight, with Nilan the only guy throwing anything. Nilan lands a few sporadic short rights with Basil not even attempting a punch. The scrap ends with Nilan falling on top of McRae.

Both players tied eachother up but McCrae got lots of punches in early, then Nilan wrestled and got some late punches in and landed on top when they fell to ice.

Clear win for Nilan as he landed at least 4 facial-punches while McRae held on for dear life without even swinging.
